Brands to Know: Jean Shop

For those of you out there that don’t keep up with the blog-o-sphere and the eruption of traditional American work wear, there have been an increasing number of people out there that just straight-up love denim. And when we say love we don’t mean they have 10 pairs of jeans they hang up in the middle of their wardrobe, these guys will literally buy one pair of raw jeans and wear them day-in, day-out for years. And we bet that if you polled every denimhead out there about what brand understands their sacred fabric best, you’d get an awful lot of people singing the praises of Jean Shop.

If you don’t believe us about the existence of said denimheads, you can pop over to The Denim Debate and check out the 26 contributors who religiously wear their jeans so that readers can get a sense of how different brands fade (of course, Jean Shop is one of the brands represented). The West Village-based brand made their name on quality Japanese selvage and offering a seemingly endless options of washes and distressing in their New York location. But the brand has also spread its wings and found its way into fashion meccas from the internationally-known Bergdorf Goodman all the way to hidden gems like Context in Madison, WI.

The reason for Jean Shop’s widespread appeal outside of their custom process in the Big Apple is that they just make great fitting jeans out of the best fabrics available. Sure, they’ll take you a while to break in, but you’ll reap the rewards once the hard work is in. We also love how Jean Shop balances its basic design as you can choose from one of three fits (Classic, Rocker, and Skinny) in just enough colors to fill your wardbrobe, but not so many that you have trouble choosing. Take their chambray jeans they introduced this season, for example. It’s a super smart play for the summer months, but isn’t so crazy that you won’t be able to wear them.

So check Jean Shop out and buy a great pair of jeans if haven’t already, it’s an investment that will be well worth it.

Alright jeans, not alright for the price. Get APCs instead and save a bill.
