Brands to Know: Udeshi
Your search for badass clothing stops at Udeshi. Designer Oscar Udeshi was raised in London and trained to be a financier, but left the finance industry to fill voids in fashion. What he created was a label full of sleek, masculine jackets and shirts to bring out your inner James Bond.
The first real staple of the collection is their Extreme Cutaway Collar shirt. You’ve heard us promote cutaway collars as a way to project a stately air to your outfit, but this piece ups the ante on that note. The collar is literally the most extreme one we’ve ever seen. It goes back just before the yoke – so that, as their website notes, if it went any further, the collar would be useless.
Then there’s our favorite velvet jacket that we’ve seen on the market. It’s got those giant Tom Ford-esque silk lapels and a plush velvet that forms to your body — which means that, unlike your retro velvet piece from your brother’s leftover closet from college, does not look sleazy, but rather masculine and almost understated.
Real 7-fold ties — something that’s pretty hard to find these days. A nasty skull and cross bones scarf for which they alter the colors every season. And some pretty unbeatable outerwear.
Beyond those “Signatures” as Udeshi calls them, there’s the seasonal collection which always boasts some solid items. Navy suits, pinstripe peak lapel suits, three piece piped suits. The stuff just rules.
At Udeshi, the emphasis is on manly items with masculine tailoring and the best of the best in materials. His velvets and wools will leave you crying. And of course you can trust Mr. Udeshi — he’s been garnering some serious accolades since he joined the industry.
So with that, we’re pretty thrilled that he finally added the online store — where you can snag one of those gorgeous cutaway collar shirts. And a note here that Prepidemic is now accepting donations to its Please Someone Buy us an Udeshi Extreme Cutaway Collar Shirt Charity.
Check the online store here. And if you’re in London or Milan, be sure to check the stuff out in person. Just bring a tissue.
