Gant Opens Bleecker Street Store
Today, Gant opens their new West Village location. It’s the first stand-alone retail location for Rugger, so consider it one of two spots to grab the whole Gant Rugger collection — the other being the flagship at 645 Fifth Ave.
The 700 sq. foot store is at 353 Bleecker St and showcases an industrial factory look, in part inspired by Gant’s New Haven, CT factory.
“We tried to create a space that inspires a mix of creativity and functional design, with a nod to the passion that went into our grass-roots shirtmaking origins from all those years ago,” Rugger head designer Christopher Bastin said. “It’s a very personal space.”
The narrow store features exposed brick and open ceilings. Walk in and find vintage furniture and fixtures all around. Particularly cool is a special wood and frosted glass dressing area modeled after the foreman’s office of company founder Bernard Gant.
“Bleecker Street is the logical next step in the development of Gant Rugger as a stand-alone business,” Ari Hoffman, Gant USA President and CEO said. “Our goal is to be the best neighborhood shop for our target customer.”
They have a custom adjustable wood shelving system, and you can find archival shirt-making patterns and pattern-making equipment adorning the store along with fabric rolls and old school sewing machines.
Adding to the overall vibe, newspaper articles and photos from the New Haven factory from the 50s-70s.
