Prepidemic Guide: The New Chambray

J. Crew Red Chambray Utility, $98

If you were to survey all of the men’s style bloggers out there as to what was the hottest fabric over the last year, we’re fairly certain you’d get a unanimous answer: chambray. As authentic Americana has come on strong–spearheaded by guys like Engineered Garments and Billykirk–work-wear fabrics like chambray and denim have been surfacing in every shape and color imaginable. The shape shifting of chambray has really caught our eye recently as it seems like more and more people have been venturing away from the classic blue chambray shirt into tons of really interesting and unique pieces.

Gitman Vintage Violet Chambray, $145

The first thing to go over is the vast array of chambray shirts that are out on the market right now. It seems like everyone is making one, so we’ve picked out a couple of our favorite variations. If you’re looking for a little pop this spring, then J. Crew has got a chambray shirt for you. Their red selvage chambray shirt really has a unique hue and will surely succeed in getting you a few (good) looks when you’re out on the street. For a more toned down look, we think you should take a look at the reliable, and stylish, line Gitman Vintage. Their chambray shirts, coming in six different colors for the new season, are slim and begging to be worn in.

Gitman Vintage Grey Chambray, $145

For those of you looking to invest in chambray outside of the standard shirting department, then there is really only one brand that you need to check out as there isn’t anyone who loves chambray more than them. This brand has got the American work-wear aesthetic all figured out as they churn out chambray in tie, pocket square, bandana, and scarf form. Gentleman, The Hill-Side is the best brand in the chambray accessory market–no need to search elsewhere.

Our favorite pieces have to be the scarves and pocket squares as we feel like these are two accessories that lend themselves well to the unique texture of the chambray fabric. Like Gitman Vintage, they’ve discovered the purple chambray and we gotta say that the violet chambray pocket square really jumps out at you in just the right way. Along with the pocket square, we’re really high on their scarves because they’re just so different than what you usually expect to see wrapped around someone’s neck. Get one and try it out just like fellow style blogger All Plaidout (above).
