Piece by Piece: A Sartorial Summer
This summer we continue to be influenced by those who dress it up rather than dress down. We can’t help but loving the feeling of wearing a great blazer with a pair of light trousers while everyone else on the street is in shorts and a t-shirt. Few things are more liberating than being confident with your dress, but in the heart of summer you have to be wise about your clothing choices. Luckily, we’ve patched together an outfit that does ought to satisfy your urge to express your inner style without succumbing to the heat.
While we were tempted to find a nice cotton or linen sport coat for the look, Phineas Cole’s doeskin blazer is a bit more aggressive than most anything on the market made from a “summer fabric.” Despite being made from wool, you’ll be amazed at how light this sport coat feels when you put it on. It’s trim, but not constraining–which we think is a key to comfort in high temperatures. Paired with Sid Mashburn’s light pink pencil stripe shirt, you’ve got the makings of quite a look.
While a tie may seen small, we often find it to be one of the pieces that causes us the most harm when it’s hot outside. A heavy woven tie can really feel like a small weight around your neck, especially if you’re one of those fellows who is a 7-fold obsessive. A simple silk knit tie will lighten the load quite a bit without downgrading the seriousness of your look. The real savior in this look is the trousers. A pair of chambray trousers may not be common, but you can bet they’ll come in handy. Epaulet’s pair have a great color that don’t seem the least bit casual despite being made from such a light fabric. We suggest cuffing these right at the ankle in order to leave some breathing room between the pants and your loafers. This is the perfect time to whip out a pair of shoes with a lighter hue and Ralph Lauren’s new Singleton penny loafer is absolutely spot on.

Chambray trousers nice, but also check out Lands’ End oxford cloth trousers, in both plain and pleated front (http://www.landsend.com/pp/TraditionalFitNoIronPlainFrontOxfordPants~208076_-1.html?bcc=y&action=order_more&sku_0=::BLU&CM_MERCH=search-_-oxford+pants&origin=search). Very well-constructed, and a great deal at $25. Nothing wrong with $175 trousers, but even better at $25!
Wow, all I can say is I wish I’d found those Chambray trousers a while ago. My favorite shirts are chambray and to own a pair of trousers of the same material seems almost heavenly. You guys put together a hell of a wardrobe here.
