Piece by Piece: Muted Leather
Too often guys try to do too much when they wear leather. They feel like they need to make some huge statement, but leather can be a really authentic and casual fabric. Here’s how to pull off a leather jacket without looking like you’re trying too hard.
The key to leather is to wear it and keep it from wearing you. Most guys try to wear a leather jacket to be a badass and just end up looking like Ramones wannabes. It’s great if you want to look like a serious rock and roller, but it’s just not a good look for everyone. We prefer a more relaxed type of look when it comes to leather. Too many guys only think black when it comes to leather jackets, but a brown jacket is far more appealing in our eyes. Go for something soft and trim like this option by Paul Stuart. It has the golf jacket structure, so you won’t feel like you’re venturing way out of your comfort zone when you try it on.
Keep it simple and classic everywhere else. A v-neck t-shirt and some beige jeans will keep you from looking like you’re trying too hard. James Perse makes some of our favorite simple tees, which at $50 may seem like a rip-off, but buy one and we think you’ll appreciate the investment. Of course we’ll stick with our A.P.C’s and we’re loving the new colorways they’ve been dishing out over the last season or two. Finally, you can rarely go wrong with a pair of brown wingtips and Asos makes a surprisingly attractive pair of the absurd price of $60.
