Piece of the Week: Ralph Lauren Singleton Loafer
The predicament: You’re looking for a loafer that will look good all year round, doesn’t have that moccasin-style stitching, will last you years, and looks unique enough to get you a few good looks every time you wear it. That’s a tall order right there. Most of the time you’ll have to look at the big boys like Edward Green, Crockett & Jones, and John Lobb to fulfill this criteria. This means shelling out $700+ to get said piece. While we’re not entirely against paying this much if it means you’ll be welcoming a central item into your wardrobe, we also don’t see a need to overpay when there is something perfectly good for almost half the price.
Sure, Ralph Lauren’s $475 Singleton Loafer is going to be way out of a lot of people’s price ranges, but consider the facts. This shoe will serve you for longer than one half its price and you’ll know that every time you put it on you look damn good. What we’re saying is that there’s some serious utility in this investment. We absolutely love the lighter-colored leather as well as the burnishing at the toe–a feature that’s hard to find on shoes in this price range. The shape is also great as it has a sleek design, but combined with a strong sole to keep you from looking too “fashiony.” So consider your finances and take a hard look at this beautiful specimen as it might just be your new favorite item.
