Prepidemic Promotes: Muted Madras
While we do love the super preppy madras that you see littered all over the blogosphere, something that we don’t think gets enough press is its toned down counterpart. It’s hard not to immediately associate madras with the prep, but it can also be very rugged when done the right way. It’s something we see a lot of the most stylish guys we know doing when they want to dress it down a bit. Sometimes you don’t really want to make a big statement, but still want to look good in a subtle way. We love a muted madras shirt with some worn-as-hell jeans, especially if you really make sure to keep the proportions right.
The biggest problem we see with men wearing muted madras is that they think that since it’s a rugged look, the clothing needs to be a bit baggy. Keep things trim and you ought to have tons of success as it’s the kind of thing that is very easy to wear and will never leave you feeling like you’re looking costumey. While we do suggest easing into a muted madras with a shirt, neckwear is also a great place to start. If you’re really feeling bold one can look into a sport coat and, if you’re so inclined, you could combine all three in the same look and really spice things up (note–this suggestion is not for beginners).
