Sartorialist’s Top Ten: #2 The Classic

Ahh, the boy who dared to keep it simple. Often times well-dressed men like to make statements, but we really enjoy the simplicity that has gone into this outfit.Duffle coat, blue blazer, fair isle sweater, oxford shirt, wingtips, horn-rimmed glasses, Filson bag–is this guy all about classic American and British style or what? Everything just seems to work so well here as he is showing how well layering can work in the colder months. Up top, he mixes and matches shades of blue so well from the coat to the blazer to the light blue oxford shirt. The bag also pops ever-so-slightly as it is a shade brighter than any of his other blues.
Without the sweater, one might think that this was just a well-tailored, but overly-traditional outfit that really doesn’t do anything special. The sweater really makes the look as it doesn’t immediately become the center of attention, but is still complex enough to show a little sartorial savvy. So well done to he-who-keeps-it-simple-and-smart…
