Style Icon: Paul Newman
The great Paul Newman was the embodiment of cool. He just knew how to wear his clothes without looking like he tried too hard. So many people talk about Steve McQueen as the champion of casual style, but it was Paul Newman that burnt his tuxedo on his 75th birthday because he “was done with formality.” Which, in one way was a shame because he just looked so damn good when he dressed up, but in another way is the perfect expression of his style.
It’s difficult to write about Newman’s style because you don’t really remember what he wore, you just know that he looked good. Hell, his most memorable accessory may have been a beer or a cigarette, but that was Paul. But if you take a closer look, Newman popularized the sportswear that guys like J. Crew and Club Monaco are obsessing over. Another thing we noticed is that we really love how he keeps his color palette simple. White, grey, and beige are his go-to colors, which is a perfect fit for a guy that isn’t trying to make a fashion statement.
