Summer 2010: The Review Part II
This summer season is evidently here – the opportunity for indulging in color and staying cool should be ones thoughts. Hold out on your raw denim jeans until the fall rolls around and get into some more breathable loose cotton pieces. Lightweight cotton fabrics like madras incorporated into pieces like a blazer , shorts , or pants are great to pair with any outfit. Stress some versatility with your outfit by balancing some days with sharp dress shoes, and others with casual footwear such as white canvas sneakers for those long walks.”
Joshua, along with his partner Travis Gumbs, is the founder of the urban style blog Street Etiquette. He’s one of the most stylish guys in the New York area and is particularly skilled at incorporating more outrageous pieces (thikn Navajo knit sweaters and bold madras) into a refined wardrobe.
“More and more men, especially in NYC, are becoming increasingly conscious of their appearance and are trying to step-up their style. Without the proper use of linen, silk, cotton, seersucker, etc. layering becomes difficult and summer style can fall apart in a hurry. I think we’ll see men experimenting with fabrics that will keep them cool while keeping a streamlined, European-influenced silhouette. Along those same lines, we all know that summer is the season of bold color, but this summer is going to be more about the chic subdued “city version” of color (pale mauve, light olive green, faded royal blue) rather than the predictable-preppy kelly greens and Nantucket reds. Lastly, there is no footwear more versatile and easy-wearing than boat shoes. People are wearing them year-round now, but they are summer shoes. Because they are so popular, the trick is to find them in rare colors/fabrics or limited designer collaborations. That’s all I’ll say about that…gotta keep some things for myself!”

“This summer is all about getting my grown man on. I’m thinking partially lined blazers in various summer fabrics – think a double breasted chino number on top of a white oxford cloth button down. Along with some S/S tailored gear I think crisply creased pants are great. Even with pleats, yes pleats, just make sure everything stays trim to avoid looking like a sales associate at Men’s Wearhouse. You can’t beat all those clean lines even if you tried. And who would I be if I didn’t shout out double monk strap shoes? All these pics popping up online recently of Italian dudes stunting in black double monk straps and white jeans–with no break–should be all the reinforcement you need. I’ve got 4 pairs myself and they are all going to see quite a bit of sockless jaunting.”

“At the moment, we’re really influenced by all the stylish old men over in Italy as well as all the preppy guys we see at Ralph Lauren retail stores. We’ve been dressing up a lot more this summer, and we’re usually wearing a light blue blazer or a linen sport coat. We’ve been paying particular attention to the cut and length of our trousers, as these two aspects determine how slim you’re going to look more than anything else. Get something that’s trim through the thigh and tapers down ever so slightly by the time it hits your ankles–but please, little to no break in the leg (see photo above).”

Really great looks, I love the tassel loafers with the tattoo, really clever and understated
The tassel’s look great – where is this picture from?
