Summer Style Tip: Bandana as a Pocket Square

If you’re thinking about spending $60 on a pocket square for the summer, don’t. There are a couple of easier ways out of indulging in that extravagance for a piece of fabric worth no more than a quarter of the price tag you see.

The first way out is to hit up Prepidemic’s online shop and snag some of those gorgeous seasonal Bocca Al Lupo squares for just $15 a piece. (Yeah, folks – that’s what we like to call a shameless plug.)

The second way is to consider a bandana. For one, they’re incredibly cheap. If you don’t have one laying around, just hit up Moosejaw and snag one for a buck ninety-five. But they’re also incredibly functional. The durable cotton is perfect for dabbing away sweat, scrubbing away dirt from elsewhere on your clothing, blowing your nose (though if you blow your nose in it, don’t use it for anything else), wiping away a girl’s tears as you swoop in to save her like the casanova you are, or really just about any other odd job you can think up.

And then there’s the style factor. Bold in color and design, they make for a great embellishment to your chest pocket. Thin in material, these things are perfect for summer and look great when you just stuff them in and let the corners dangle over the pocket nonchalantly. And they’ve got a great manly Western feel that might be cool in contrast with your narrowly tailored navy suit made for wearing downtown. So give it a try.

A TV fold just looks so much better with bandanas than the boring white silk or cotton square.

Just curious as to how do you fold the huge bandana in to the chest pocket without having it look like it’s bulging out?
