The Sartorialist’s Top Ten: #10 The Character
What we really love about this shot is how it penetrates the man behind the clothes. We feel it’s important to start off our Sartorialist’s Top Ten with a photograph that is all about how to wear your clothes rather than what clothes to wear. Identical twins could wear the same exact outfit, but they could give off two totally different vibes from how they hold themselves. This man, appropriately named “The Character,” is the perfect example of wearing your clothes and not allowing them to wear you.
The huge white beard and raised eyebrow give a glimpse into his essence, but what we love about his style is that is reflects his quirky persona in perfectly subtle ways. His white scarf and shirt are almost continuations of his beard, which is really what catches the viewer’s eye before anything else. The two little details that set his style apart are the hat and pocket square. His pocket square flops down in a sort of Dali-esque manor and his hat appears to have a bite out of the brim which gives the piece character.
