At midnight tonight you’ll no longer be able to access Prepidemic’s content. We’ve had a great run here and thank all of you for supporting us. We’re not giving up on our mission, but instead taking a big jump forward with a new website. The site is called Men of Habit (www.menofhabit.com) and will add a lifestyle component to the aesthetic we have developed at Prepidemic. We hope you’ll follow Men of Habit in the same way you followed us here and we don’t think you’ll be disappointed.

Patchwork Madras Shirt, Polo Ralph Lauren

A good patchwork madras shirt is one of those pieces that manages to work year in and year out despite being fairly loud. We love this option from Polo because it’s not too bright, which allows you to wear it pretty regularly. The custom-fit is obviously a big plus as a shirt like this would look down right sloppy if the fit isn’t there. Wear it under a blue blazer and you’ll be ready to go from the city to the beach without every having to take a pit-stop at home to change.

Madras Ties, J. Press

If you didn’t bite on the patchwork madras shirt, then hopefully you’ll at least invest in a madras tie for the spring. They work great with any fairly simple shirt and you can wear them without feeling too “dressed up.” For some reason, we’ve been seeing a lot of madras ties for over $100 and sometimes approaching $150–which should never be the case. Luckily, you can head on over to J. Press and find yourself some great madras ties for less than $70.

Linen/Silk/Wool Sportcoat, Rugby by Ralph Lauren

Rugby’s Italian program for Spring ’11 has certainly caught the eye of a lot of stylish guys, but in case you haven’t heard anything about the collection allow us to give you the head’s up. They’ve boosted the quality of their product, albeit raising their price point a bit, but we’re okay with that because the product they’re making is still a great value. With a bunch of different suit and sport coat options, there’s definitely something in there for you. Our favorite is this beige herringbone sport coat as it’s a great alternative to a blue blazer and will surely occupy an important spot in your wardrobe for quite some time.

Cotton/Linen Shorts, Incotex

Incotex flies under the radar for the most part, but in stylish circles there are few brands that get the type of respect that the small Italian brand does. While known for their trousers, when we saw these single pleat cotton/linen shorts on the new online shop Mr. Porter, we instantly fell in love. They’re just the right length and the pale blue is the kind of color that just looks great on everyone.

One Eyelet Camp Moccasin, Eastland Made in Maine

We’ve been really obsessed with moccasins as an alternative to boat shoes in the warmer months and these single eyelet camp mocs by Eastland Made in Maine are right at the top of our personal shopping list. They have a great slim shape, which we think makes them more attractive than your average pair of Sperry’s. They’re hand sewn in Maine from quality American leather, so you can also expect these to last you a long time.

Hackett Spring/Summer ’11

While we don’t have the pleasure of possessing a Hackett store here in the states, we do have the pleasure of being able to check out their seasonal lookbooks–which we think are some of the best resources for young guys looking for styling tips in the young British aesthetic. They never seem to fail in their quest to put together something that is inspiring while at the same time being practical. For Spring/Summer ’11, they’ve taken to the beach and put together some great looks that will serve you well in the warmer months.

From a cream three-piece suit to a madras shirt and some chinos, Hackett shows that they know how to dress it up and down with equal effectiveness. Our favorite look is probably the simple linen jacket with a white shirt, khakis, a madras tie, and some incredible leather suspenders. It may not be the most complicated outfits, but it shows that with a simple base and good proportions, all you need is a couple of smart accessories to look your best. Aside from this, the off-white canvas and brown leather bags might just be our favorite pieces in the collection. The classic color combination is pretty hard to beat, especially when paired with an equally beautiful hat.

Ralph Lauren is at the center of the classic menswear market. We all know this. For this reason, we thought it was appropriate to do a little retrospective on Ralph Lauren’s recent history. Starting with the upcoming F/W ’11 designs and backtracking all the way back to 2006, we’ve picked some of our favorite looks from Purple Label, Black Label, and Polo. When you look at it, you can help but love the diversity of styles that you see–especially when you think about the reputation for “preppy” style Ralph Lauren has in most of America. From British luxury to Nantucket elite to Colorado cowboy, RL has a knack for any look they put together seem desireable–save some of the more intense Black Label stuff.

The Tumblr Has Moved!

Prepidemic Promotes: Bonobos St. Paddy’s Collection

St. Patrick’s Day is one of our favorite holidays. Great festivities, wonderful camaraderie, and a sea of green. That means it’s an opportunity to dress a little out there, and thankfully, Bonobos has a relatively affordable solution that keeps you looking cool while still looking like you’re the life of the party.

Walk on the wild side with the Shamrock Printed Chinos (whose fit is really quite flattering for such a humorous design). Or just keep it green and classy with their solid colored sweaters, polos, and belts. If you’ve got a date, throw on their pretty (and only $268) Black Watch linen blazer. With one of the best fit-price point ratios, these festive products are just watch you need to avoid getting pinched come Thursday.

Style in Motion

This may not be new, but we thought that it was worth bringing to the attention of our readers. This fall the French fashion magazine Man About Town did a great spread featuring freestyle skateboarder Kilian Martin. Now, we’re not usually ones for a lot of their higher-end fashion spreads, but this feature really caught our eye and we just recently stumbled upon the stunning video that accompanied the photos. The slick 50′s-inspired clothing really contrasts with the modernity of skateboard in a way that is unique and very artistic. The poses Kilian takes on are statuesque and remind you of dance much more than skating.

If you haven’t gotten a chance to check out the spread, Man About Town is surprisingly easy to find around New York City and is worth taking a good look at. As we said, some of the stuff can get a bit “fashiony” for our taste, but there is a level of artistry and philosophy that is totally missing from the American GQ and Esquire.
